The process to consider moving to Memory Support at Hermitage Richmond includes:
Many communities do not discuss finances with potential residents. At Hermitage Richmond, we do include a financial and actuarial review for many reasons. Most importantly, we want to be sure that residents can live as they choose and that they will have the resources they will need in the future if they are blessed with longevity. Hermitage Richmond is part of Pinnacle Living, a not-for-profit organization with a mission that is very important to us. We form a lifetime relationship with our residents and make a commitment to provide assistance to those who, through no fault of their own, may become unable to meet the financial responsibilities of their residence or care. As with many relationships, this one is based on mutual responsibility in reviewing your financial information and actuarial projections, we can better assure that the plan to call our community home is right for everyone involved.
The Samaritan Program provides peace of mind to residents who have outlived their financial resources. We are committed to an established policy to provide assistance to those who, through no fault of their own, become unable to meet the full cost of our services. This has been an integral part of who we are since our founding in 1948.

As a continuing care retirement community, Hermitage Richmond offers couples the option to move directly to Independent Living, Assisted Living, or to The Grove Health Care Center. Other times one member of a couple requires a different level of living than the other. Hermitage Richmond is flexible to almost all living arrangements and choices as long as all the residents’ safety remains the highest priority. Some couples are able to safely and comfortably live together in an independent living residence despite one member having a memory issue. At times one member of a couple needs the higher level of support, programming and security that McGuire Park (Assisted Living Memory Care) or Snyder Park (Nursing Care level of Memory Care) provide. Couples can choose to live together in either of those neighborhoods or one can be in the secure neighborhood while the other is just down the hall. The Hermitage Richmond team understands that finding the appropriate level of living is a key to quality of life. Each member of a couple is an active participant in the team that assesses and monitors their care level. Any decisions regarding a change or level of living involves ongoing input from residents, family members, physical and occupational therapists, healthcare professionals, and other key staff members. Our philosophy focuses on our residents, their contribution and control no matter what level of living.
Different communities may define “Memory Support” differently — make sure any community you consider matches your expectations. You should ask good questions about how the community could provide assistance required if needs change. Perhaps most importantly, you should be aware of what things are important to you in order to feel at home — Preparing meals or snacks? Having friends visit? How to safely get out into the larger community? What parts of the world are brought in for you to enjoy? Do they provide flexibility and conform to your schedule or do they have set hours to get up, eat meals or receive services? Many people who are considering moving to a Memory Support community find themselves and their loved ones at a difficult time of change in their lives. Their ability to drive safely often has ended and that often brings with it difficulties to connect with friends and families, go to grocery, bank, church or other key parts of life without relying on others. For those who live in a single family home this single change can lead to isolation, poor eating habits, isolation, and other problems that significantly reduce their quality of life. Memory Support at Hermitage Richmond is programmed and staffed to remove these dangers and replace them with maintenance-free living, easy opportunities for privacy or social interactions. Most importantly these programs and activities safely connect residents with their loved ones and the greater community on their terms and as they direct. They enjoy a much richer social and mental life. Many residents find their physical health improves significantly when they move to Hermitage Richmond…usually, because their emotional and mental health has improved by living in a better home!
Most potential residents prioritize location, reputation, quality of care, community atmosphere, how self-directed is life at the community and what programs, events and amenities do they offer. Talk to the residents about their overall satisfaction with their community. Hermitage Richmond is licensed by the Department of Social Services and the Virginia Health Department. Hermitage Richmond is also accredited by CARF.
